Theories  on Biological Evolution
There are a number of theories about the evolution of human beings.  One theory is the THEORY OF NATURAL SELECTION by Charles Darwin.  In this theory, a given population may have physical variations that are dependent upon the demand placed on the organism by the environment.  This condition may enhance the animal's chance of producing offsprings that survive. Thus, the better adapted members of a population increase in number (propagate) whereas the less favored decrease in number.

The interactive documentary (BECOMING HUMAN) by the Institute on Human Origin shall better explain the Evolution of Human Beings.  http://www.becominghuman.org/
